How Duct Cleaning Can Improve Indoor Air Quality

When your air ducts need to be cleaned, there will be noticeable signs. First, your air conditioner will work harder than it should. Then, your monthly energy bills will constantly rise, and you’ll start to see dust particles floating in the air on a sunny day as sunlight shines into your home.

If you’re in this situation, you can improve the air quality in your home by cleaning your air ducts. Before you embark on this journey, there are a few things that you’ll need to know.

What Lowers the Air Quality

In order to defend your home, you’ll need to know what the threats are. Basically, there are four culprits that you should be aware of. The first culprit is dirt; it can enter your home on your shoes, clothing, sports equipment, and other items. Once it gets on your carpeting, it will eventually make its way to the ducts.

The next culprit is pollen. Pollen can be tricky to detect because it’s microscopic in size. Because it can fly, it can easily access vulnerable air ducts.

If you have pets, you’ll have to deal with the next treat, which is pet dander. Unlike dust and pollen, pet dander is easy to spot. If a lot of it remains in your home, it can cause huge problems for allergy suffers.

The final threat is technically unavoidable. It’s the debris that exists in a home. Dust falls in this category. While a good air filter can catch dust, it will not catch all of it. This is where duct cleaning comes into play.

Why Duct Cleaning Is the Solution

Duct cleaning and air filters are a dynamic duo. If you change your air filter and fail to clean your ducts, the indoor air quality in your home will eventually drop because an air filter can only catch particles that fly pass its mesh. It cannot stop potential threats that can formulate inside on the ducts. Ducts are cold and dark; this is a problem because mildew and other contaminants will often populate in this type of environment.

If you want to maintain a clean, healthy home, you’ll need to set up an appointment for duct cleaning at least once a year. To get started, just call Air Creation Heating & Cooling.
